Concrete Estimator
Job Overview:
As a Concrete Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase of projects by analyzing project specifications, developing cost estimates, and preparing comprehensive bids for concrete work. You will work closely with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing that aligns with project requirements and company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Review project blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to develop accurate concrete estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and competitive bids for concrete projects, ensuring that all elements of the project are accounted for, including material costs, labor rates, and timeframes.
- Material Takeoff: Perform material takeoffs for concrete quantities (e.g., slabs, walls, foundations, curbs, sidewalks, etc.) and confirm the proper quantities are listed in the estimates.
- Site Evaluation: Conduct site visits when necessary to assess project conditions, review site layouts, and gather additional information to ensure accurate estimates.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to discuss project scope, clarify design details, and address any potential cost-related issues.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the most cost-effective materials and services are included in estimates.
- Cost Analysis: Perform cost breakdowns, risk assessments, and value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities or potential challenges.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, proposals, and project-specific documents. Provide regular updates to management on the status of current estimates and upcoming bid opportunities.
- Project Support: Provide ongoing support throughout the project s lifecycle, addressing any changes or revisions to the original estimate as the project progresses.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as a concrete estimator or in a related role within the construction industry.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of concrete materials, construction processes, and estimating methods. Familiarity with industry-specific software (e.g., ProEst, PlanSwift, or similar estimating tools) is a plus.
- Education: A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Estimating or Cost Engineering (e.g., AACE International or similar).
- Experience with large-scale commercial or industrial concrete projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and materials.
