Location: Wilmington, NC (Initial project; subsequent projects in Southeastern U.S. states)

Type: Full-Time, Traveling Role

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Superintendent to join our client's team for an ongoing project in Wilmington, NC, expected to complete within the next 12 months. Following this, the role will transition to other exciting projects throughout the Southeastern states. This is an excellent opportunity for a traveling construction professional looking for long-term stability, as our client prioritizes retaining top talent for future assignments. As Assistant Superintendent, you will support the Superintendent in overseeing daily site operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing on-site construction activities, including scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and material procurement for apartment complexes and mixed-use developments.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor progress, quality control, and compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Collaborate with the project team to resolve issues, implement safety protocols, and maintain a productive work environment.
  • Track project timelines, budgets, and resources; prepare reports on progress, delays, and change orders.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations (OSHA standards) and promote a culture of zero incidents.
  • Support the Superintendent in leading site meetings, training junior staff, and fostering strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Travel to new project sites in the Southeastern U.S. as needed, with flexibility for relocation between assignments.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial construction, preferably in multifamily or mixed-use projects.
  • Proven track record as an Assistant Superintendent or similar role, with hands-on knowledge of site management, blueprints, and construction software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Strong understanding of building codes, safety standards, and quality assurance processes.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Southeastern states; valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, LEED) a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment with physical demands including lifting and site navigation.
