Principal Landscape Architect
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Principal Landscape Architect to lead and manage high-profile landscape architecture projects from concept to completion. This leadership role will be responsible for strategic project oversight, client engagement, team mentorship, and ensuring innovative, sustainable, and context-sensitive design solutions. The ideal candidate brings a blend of creativity, technical knowledge, and business acumen, with a passion for shaping spaces that enrich communities and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Leadership:
- Lead the conceptual and detailed design development of landscape architecture projects.
- Champion sustainable and resilient design principles throughout the project lifecycle.
- Project Management:
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing timelines, budgets, deliverables, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants across disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships; act as the primary point of contact for key clients.
- Facilitate public meetings, charrettes, and presentations to communicate design intent and gather feedback.
- Team Leadership:
- Mentor and supervise junior and mid-level landscape architects and designers.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive studio environment that promotes innovation and professional growth.
- Business Development:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and participate in proposal writing and interviews.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the landscape architecture practice.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Landscape Architecture.
- Licensed Landscape Architect (or eligible for licensure).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in landscape architecture, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior design role.
- Demonstrated portfolio of completed projects that showcase a high level of design, creativity, and technical expertise.
- Strong knowledge of planting design, grading and drainage, construction methods, and sustainable site practices.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, and/or Revit; familiarity with GIS and BIM is a plus.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills:
- LEED or SITES accreditation.
- Experience with public sector projects, permitting processes, and community engagement.
- Multidisciplinary project experience, including collaboration with architects, civil engineers, and urban planners.
Work Environment:
This role may require a mix of office-based work and field visits. Travel to project sites, client meetings, and public engagement events is expected.
