Manufacturing Controls Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Controls Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems that ensure efficient and effective operations within our manufacturing processes. This role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain and enhance automated systems, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the highest levels of product quality and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Design & Implementation:
- Design, program, and implement control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, etc.) to automate manufacturing processes.
- Develop control strategies and ensure integration with existing manufacturing systems.
- Collaborate with process engineers to understand requirements and tailor control systems to meet production needs.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on control systems and ensure all automation equipment is operating optimally.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues, working with technicians and operators to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Process Optimization:
- Continuously analyze production data and recommend control system improvements to optimize efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve product quality.
- Identify and implement process improvements through automation and control system enhancements.
- Project Management:
- Lead or support the installation and commissioning of new control systems for manufacturing lines or equipment.
- Ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Create and maintain accurate documentation of control systems, including schematics, flow diagrams, software programs, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide regular updates on system performance and improvement initiatives to management.
- Collaboration & Training:
- Work closely with manufacturing teams, maintenance, and engineering departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Train operators and technicians on the proper use of control systems and troubleshoot common issues.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A Master s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial automation environment.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMIs, SCADA systems, and control system programming.
- Familiarity with motion control systems, robotics, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) is a plus.
- Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.) and communication protocols.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Proficient in programming and troubleshooting PLCs and control systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing best practices and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) or MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems).
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, machine learning, predictive maintenance).
- Ability to read electrical schematics and system diagrams.
- Certification in control systems or automation (e.g., ISA, Rockwell Automation).
