Heavy Equipment Operator - Underground Pipe
Our client is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join their team specializing in underground utilities. The ideal candidate will operate heavy machinery, such as excavators, backhoes, and trenchers, to assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility systems. This role requires a commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner during excavation, trenching, and backfilling operations.
- Perform pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with crew members to plan and execute utility installation and repair tasks.
- Interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine job requirements and equipment needs.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including equipment usage and hours worked.
- Follow safety protocols and regulations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and report any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
- Assist in site preparation and cleanup, ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
- Participate in training sessions and safety meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications preferred (e.g., NCCCO, OSHA).
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment, specifically in underground utility work.
- Strong understanding of utility construction practices and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Valid driver s license and a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Capacity to work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and navigating rough terrain.
