Manufacturing Shift Supervisor - 3rd Shift (7p-7a)
The Manufacturing Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a manufacturing shift, ensuring the production of high-quality products in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This position involves direct supervision of a team of operators and technicians, ensuring adherence to production schedules, safety standards, and company policies. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of production staff on the assigned shift to meet daily production goals and schedules.
- Ensure production processes are running efficiently, safely, and within quality standards.
- Monitor production output, resolve any production issues, and ensure minimal downtime.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly operated and maintained during the shift.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of machine operators, assemblers, and technicians, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Provide regular feedback and conduct performance reviews for team members.
- Ensure all staff members are adequately trained on equipment, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Maintain a high level of morale and team engagement, addressing issues promptly and effectively.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure adherence to product quality specifications, conducting inspections, audits, and testing as necessary.
- Address quality deviations, ensuring corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.
- Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards, promoting a safety-first culture.
- Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Conduct safety audits, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Report and investigate any accidents, injuries, or near misses.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Track and report production metrics, including output, quality, downtime, and efficiency, ensuring targets are met.
- Assist in analyzing production data to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare shift reports for senior management, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational issues.
- Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement:
- Address operational and equipment issues as they arise, ensuring minimal impact on production.
- Implement and support continuous improvement programs, such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma, to optimize production processes.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Maintenance and Engineering, to resolve technical issues and improve equipment reliability.
- Inventory & Materials Management:
- Ensure that materials and components are available for production and that inventory is properly managed during the shift.
- Monitor and control waste, ensuring efficient use of raw materials.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or technical certification in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems is a must.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
- Proficiency in using manufacturing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement certifications are a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification are advantageous.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift items as needed.
- Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including noise, heat, or cold.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
