Project Scheduler - Heavy Civil Construction
Job Summary:
The Project Scheduler will develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules for heavy civil construction projects to ensure timely completion, efficient resource allocation, and alignment with contractual requirements. This role collaborates closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field teams to track progress, identify risks, and support on-time, on-budget delivery in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar) from pre-construction through closeout.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope to define tasks, durations, dependencies, milestones, and critical paths.
- Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to gather input on sequencing, resource needs, and potential constraints.
- Update schedules regularly based on actual progress, change orders, weather impacts, material deliveries, and other variables; perform what-if analyses to evaluate schedule impacts.
- Monitor project timelines, identify delays or risks, and recommend mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Prepare and present schedule reports, progress updates, and lookahead schedules for project managers, clients, and internal reviews.
- Support baseline schedule development during bidding and contract phases, including logic ties and resource loading.
- Track schedule performance metrics (e.g., earned value, schedule variance) and contribute to monthly project reporting and forecasting.
- Ensure schedules incorporate safety requirements, quality controls, and regulatory compliance (e.g., INDOT, TXDOT standards where applicable).
- Assist in claims analysis or dispute resolution by providing detailed schedule documentation and impact assessments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in project scheduling for heavy civil, highway, bridge, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Proficiency in scheduling software such as Oracle Primavera P6 (preferred), Microsoft Project, or Asta Powerproject; strong understanding of CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling.
- Knowledge of heavy civil construction processes, including sequencing for grading, paving, bridge work, utilities, and site development.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with construction safety practices and a commitment to a safety-first culture.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
