Senior Accountant

Our client is urgently seeking a seasoned Senior Accountant with specialized experience in property management to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, coupled with extensive knowledge and understanding of property management operations. This role offers the opportunity to take on a leadership position within our finance department, contributing to the strategic financial management.

Responsibilities:

• Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements for multiple properties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for property owners, stakeholders, and management.
• Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Collaborate with property managers to develop and monitor annual budgets for operating expenses, capital expenditures, and reserves.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to optimize financial performance and achieve budgetary goals.
• Cash Management:
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting and management for property operations, ensuring adequate liquidity for day-to-day activities and capital projects.
  • Monitor bank accounts, reconcile statements, and manage banking relationships.
• Accounting Operations:
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff involved in property accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures specific to property management operations.
• Lease Administration:
  • Review lease agreements and ensure accurate recording of lease transactions, including rent payments, escalations, and incentives.
  • Coordinate with leasing teams to ensure compliance with lease terms and conditions.
• Tax Compliance:
  • Assist in the preparation of property tax returns, sales tax filings, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with external tax advisors and auditors to support tax planning and audit activities.
• Risk Management:
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with property operations, including insurance coverage, compliance with regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Implement strategies to safeguard assets and minimize exposure to financial losses.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in property management or real estate accounting preferred, but not required.
• Strong understanding of property management principles, including lease accounting, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliation, and property valuation.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Prior experience in supervisory or leadership roles preferred.
