Senior Estimator - Commercial Construction

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Estimator to join their dynamic team and play a key role in shaping their success.

The Senior Estimator will be a vital member of the pre-construction team and will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial construction and a proven track record of successful estimating and bid-winning. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Cost Estimation: Analyze project plans, specifications, and relevant documents to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects. Utilize historical data, industry benchmarks, and market trends to ensure the most competitive and realistic estimates.

  • Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed bid proposals, ensuring all cost elements are accounted for, and submit proposals within specified deadlines. Collaborate with the bid team to ensure all bid requirements are met, and proposals align with the company's strategy and profitability objectives.

  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Identify and select qualified subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive bids for various project components. Evaluate subcontractor proposals, negotiate contracts, and maintain positive working relationships to foster long-term partnerships.

  • Value Engineering: Explore cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options without compromising project quality, safety, or client satisfaction. Provide value-engineering recommendations to optimize project outcomes.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including identifying potential cost overruns, delays, or scope changes. Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure project success and profitability.

  • Cost Reporting and Analysis: Develop and maintain accurate cost databases, historical data, and cost benchmarks. Prepare regular cost reports and variance analyses to track project progress and profitability.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the pre-construction team, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless transfer of information, promote collaboration, and foster a unified approach to project success.

  • Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on the latest industry trends, construction techniques, and cost estimating software to enhance the team's capabilities and maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. A combination of relevant education and extensive experience will also be considered.
  • 10+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, with demonstrated experience in estimating projects of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Strong proficiency in construction cost estimation software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership qualities and the ability to mentor and guide junior estimators.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar are a plus.
