Tool Room Technician


Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Tool Room Technician to join their manufacturing team. The Tool Room Technician will be responsible for designing, constructing, and repairing molds used in the production of plastic, metal, and composite parts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tool and die making, precision machining, and CAD/CAM software.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Fabrication: Create detailed mold designs using CAD software and fabricate molds to precise specifications using various machining tools and techniques.
  • Mold Maintenance and Repair: Perform regular maintenance and repair of molds to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Machining Operations: Operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines to produce high-quality molds.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect finished molds to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards. Make necessary adjustments or modifications as required.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders to ensure molds are designed and built to support production goals.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of mold designs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program in tool and die making or mold making preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mold making, tool and die making, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam). Strong understanding of machining processes and equipment.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent precision and attention to detail in all aspects of mold making.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and other departments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Certification in mold making or tool and die making from a recognized institution.
  • Additional Skills: Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing (3D printing) and laser cutting.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
