Mechanical VDC Manager Commercial Construction
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical VDC Manager to lead virtual design and coordination efforts for commercial construction projects. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing the development and implementation of mechanical systems models (HVAC, plumbing, piping) from preconstruction through project execution, ensuring alignment with design intent, constructability, and project schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead VDC Coordination: Manage the mechanical modeling, clash detection, and coordination process across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with architectural, structural, and other trade models.
- Model Oversight: Develop and maintain accurate and detailed 3D models using Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP, and other VDC software tools.
- Preconstruction Support: Collaborate with estimators and preconstruction teams to support design development, feasibility studies, and scope validation through BIM modeling.
- Project Integration: Work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractors to translate coordinated models into actionable field documents and installation plans.
- Clash Detection: Run and manage clash detection sessions, identify issues, and facilitate coordination meetings to resolve conflicts.
- Standards & Innovation: Develop and implement company VDC standards, best practices, and innovation strategies to optimize mechanical coordination and modeling efficiency.
- Training & Leadership: Mentor junior VDC specialists, modelers, and support staff. Provide training on BIM software and workflows as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in BIM/VDC within the commercial construction industry, with a strong mechanical systems focus.
- Proficiency in Revit MEP, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD MEP, and related BIM coordination tools.
- Experience with fabrication-level modeling, shop drawings, and field installation coordination.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems and their integration with architectural and structural elements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to lead coordination meetings and effectively communicate across departments and with external partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with reality capture (laser scanning), BIM 360 / ACC, and model-to-field technologies.
- PE, PMP, or other relevant certifications a plus.
- Experience working with prefabrication and modular construction workflows.
